OVERVIEW
Tencent hosts a large annual New Year’s Gala, and this year’s theme is ‘Exploring the future,’ emphasizing an uplifting, lively atmosphere to express hopes for the future and a determined attitude. I designed the key visuals and application guidelines for the event, as well as created the opening countdown animation.
slogan & color
For the slogan design, geometric and bold strokes were used in the typography to enhance visual impact. In terms of color scheme, considering Tencent’s brand tone and the festive New Year atmosphere, both solid and gradient colors were incorporated.

Bold and trendy contrasting and gradient colors were used to reflect Tencent’s vitality and diversity. The rotating and staggered frames in the image create a tunnel-like spatial effect, while the surrounding colorful balls and ribbons extend into the tunnel, embodying the ‘Riding the Waves’ theme of moving forward with determination.
opening sequence
In previous years, the opening video was usually split into two segments: one themed animation and another countdown animation for the gala, often with different styles and somewhat abrupt transitions. However, this year’s main visual style provided us with great flexibility. We extracted abstract elements from the main visual’s style and colors to form the ten countdown numbers, seamlessly linking them like a story. The result is an opening video that serves both as a thematic animation and a countdown animation.
